“Remembering Anne Frank – Miep Gies”
Historical Character Performance To be Held February 19, 2020
New Port Richey, FL (January 13,
2020) The West Pasco County Genealogical Society (WPCGS) is pleased to welcome
actress, playwright and storyteller Nan Colton to its February genealogical
event. Ms. Colton will give a historical character performance and presentation
of “Remembering Anne Frank – Miep Gies.” Colton’s performance will be included
in the monthly Society gathering on Wednesday, February 19 from 1 to 3 p.m. at
the CARES Rao Musunuru, M.D. Enrichment Center, 12417 Clock Tower
Parkway, Hudson, FL 34667.
Colton, who has performed
professionally on U.S. and international stages, will present an overview of
the Frank family and the Dutch people’s humanitarian efforts in Nazi-occupied
Holland. The presentation will be an engaging solo performance by Colton that
delves into the life and times of Miep Gies, who was an integral member of the
team that hid eight Jewish people, including Anne Frank and her family, in
Amsterdam during World War II. Gies worked as a secretary in the office of Otto
Frank. While millions of people know
about Anne Frank, far fewer are aware of Miep Gies, the woman who sustained
Frank and her family. The actions of Miep have had a special and enduring
impact on history. Were it not for Miep Gies, the world would never have met
Anne Frank. An interactive question and answer period will follow the performance.
Cost of the
performance is $7.00 for non-members; for current Society members in good
standing, the performance is free of charge. To ensure seating and materials
availability, please register via text to 727-271-0770 or email: debbehagner@yahoo.com.
