Bernice Alexander Bennett, writing in the International African American Museum Blog, gives us an excellent article on the value and use of US Colored Troops Pension Files.
Her article gives background information about pension files and the challenges faced by USCT who submitted an application. Most of the article deals with what one may find in such a pension file, and she includes several examples of the documents.
At the end of the article, Bernice also includes a list of the references for those who want to do some further reading.
