Historical Timeline of Michigan

If you are like me, every so often you like to draw out a timeline to help give clarity to your research, and even to find a way through a brick wall. This article by William Dollarhide, published in Leland Meitzler's Genealogy Blog, give a time line of historical events in formation of Michigan.

If you have ancestors who lived in Michigan between 1612 and 2016, plotting your ancestor's life events against these historical events can be illuminating. Perhaps the most direct benefit is being able to use particulars of the growth of the state is to help you locate where vital records were kept during your ancestor's lifetime.

California Digital Newspaper Collection

This collection comes from a project of the Center for Bibliographical Studies and Research at the University of California, Riverside. It contains over 250 thousand issues equating to over 3.5 million pages. The earliest editions are in 1845. A quick count shows over 90 titles are involved.

The home page allows a keyword search as well as the ability to browse by title, date, county, and tag.
