The 20 August 2016 monthly program presented by the Pinellas
Genealogy Society is titled: "Preserving Our Personal Archives.” The Co-presenters
are Jim Schnur, Special Collections Librarian, USFSP, and Patricia Landon,
Museum Specialist, Heritage Village.
The program offers practical suggestions
on how to preserve personal papers and family records held in your homes, as
well as guidance on how to work with others in your family as new treasures are
found in attics, closets, and safety deposit boxes.
The discussion will include
strategies for traditional archival materials, some general suggestions for three-dimensional
pieces, and important considerations for audio/visual and "born-digital"
items.
In addition, the program will include a brief update on some of the
activities at Heritage Village, including the recent tenting of buildings, and
forthcoming improvements in the archives and library.
The program will be held at the Largo Public Library at 11 AM on Saturday, 20 Aug 2016. AT 10 AM the program will be preceded by a "computers in genealogy" Q&A session.
Both events are free and open to the public.
