City Directory Abbreviations

I hope you are aware of how valuable city directories can be as a research source. (If not, you can check the PGS website for a list of classes to see when the city directory class is scheduled:  http://www.flpgs.org/classes.aspx .)

But if you are familiar with city directories as all, you know they make liberal use of abbreviations, and some of those can be confusing. The GenealogyInTime Magazine offers us a list of common abbreviations used those publications, as well as a list of first name abbreviations, and occupation abbreviations.
