If you have ancestors who were orphans, they may have been associated with the orphan train movement which took place from the 1850’s to the 1920’s. It affected about one quarter of a million orphaned, homeless, or abandoned children in this country.
The website of the New York Public Library recently had an article about doing research on orphans. It gives a good background on orphan trains, as well as several links to websites that may be of assistance.
